Our unique approach to teaching math has led to exceptional results for our students, who improve their grades and confidence in math. Mathnasium’s comprehensive training and support programs, advanced business tools, and proven systems make it easy for franchisees to build a successful business while making a positive impact on their communities. Mathnasium’s Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world. With math illiteracy at an all-time high, and college and technical careers becoming increasingly competitive, parents want to give their children an advantage. Mathnasium makes that attainable through a monthly membership fee, similar to a gym membership. Students typically attend a Mathnasium Learning Center or have online instruction sessions two or three times each week for one hour, where they learn face-to-face with our highly trained instructors.

Whether a child struggles in math or needs a greater challenge, our proven approach makes believers out of even the most skeptical parents and children. Hundreds of thousands of positive reviews and testimonials tell us that we truly change lives through math every day.

Join the Mathnasium family today and help shape the future of math education!

This is an owner operator model primarily.

The Franchisee is generally the Center Director. Duties for Center Director include – Takes overall responsibility for the running of the center, managing the floor and the staff, dealing with parents and handling basic business administration. Many franchisees choose to initially fulfil this role themselves, whilst others will employ a Center Director and just handle the more advanced business requirements (financial management etc.). Our Success Is in Our Business Model

Together with our world-leading approach to teaching math and the growing demand for our services, we owe our success to the simple, efficient business model behind the Mathnasium operation. Compared to other opportunities, Mathnasium’s business model offers a modest initial investment, manageable ongoing costs, and recurring revenue. After having found success in their first center, many franchisees have opened up additional centers to increase their financial potential.

INITIAL INVESTMENT

Investment to begin operation of the first Mathnasium ranges from $112,750 to $148,500. This includes a $49,000 franchise fee, construction costs of the center, furniture, and computer equipment, first and last month’s lease, business registration and pre-open advertising. For additional units, the franchise fee is reduced to $26,500.

REVENUE

Enrollment at Mathnasium is set up like a gym membership: Students pay an upfront registration fee and ongoing monthly fees for continued attendance. Typical student enrollment is structured with multi-month packages between $249/month and $349/month per student, depending on location. Enrollment agreements are generally set up for automatic billing to a customer s credit card or ACH account. Initial registration fees are typically between $100 and $200.

COSTS

Ongoing costs to operate a Mathnasium can be broken down into five main areas:

  • Lease — Rent will vary according to location. The size of the space should be 1,200 to 1,600 square feet, in a centrally located part on the franchised territory with driving visibility and with other mid-range to high-end retail stores.
  • Wages — The majority of labor costs are for math instructors, who work with a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio and get paid hourly, typically a bit above the local minimum wage. Most
franchisees manage the day-to-day operation themselves, but some choose to hire a full-time (or near full-time) Center Director for this role.
  • Royalties — Royalties include 10% of revenue plus a base fee of $500/month. There is a
    $110/month technology fee and a $45/month Mathnasium@home fee.
  • Marketing — Franchisees must spend $2,000 per month on the marketing of their own center locally. To achieve efficiencies of scale, franchisees also contribute 2% of revenue plus $250 per month to be used for national marketing.
  • General Business Costs — Other costs include insurance, phone, utilities, video surveillance, computer equipment maintenance, office supplies like paper and printer toner, and general center upkeep.
